The Delores and Bob Spittlemeister interview on May 23 was the final in the Historical Society's spring series at the Kress Pavilion. It will soon be available online on our Catalogit Hub.
They spoke with fondness of their century farm on Plum Bottom Road. It was where Bob with 7 sisters and 7 brothers grew up, they attended Sunny Point School. Before taking over the farm, Bob worked for the Sunny Point Cheese factory which later became the Bell-Aire Motel located at Sunny Point on Hwy 42, it was destroyed in the August 23, 1998 tornado,
While on his job picking up the farmers' milk cans for the factory, Bob met Delores on her father's farm in the Baileys Harbor area. Before the farm in Baileys Harbor, Delores lived at their grocery store on the corner of 'F' and Maple Grove Rd., east of Fish Creek, with the school right across the road.
Bob graduated from Sevastopol High School where he noted he would take the mound and pitch for the Pioneers; not to be outdone Delores graduated from Gibraltar High School and we have a photo of her with the Vikings softball girls.
Bob's hobby was antique tractors and displaying them in Door County's parades and the thresheree tractor pulls.
